Andries Grabowsky , a Dutchman, is involved in train manufacturing since 1991 in Taiwan, where he manufactured two models in HO for the Dutch market, the NS 2400 and the NS DE-2. (Diesel electric 2-coach motor unit ) Both models won the first prize at the
Nuremberg toy show for Dutch models in 1992 and 1994.
In 1993 he bought the Darstaed TP line of products including the tooling and the DARSTAED brand name from Mr Marcel Darphin of Zug in Switzerland and fell irreversibly in love with O Gauge tinplate.
In 1995 he proposed the 4-4-4 project to Mr Allen Levy, heralding the revival of tinplate O Gauge in Britain. Until recently he has been Ace Trains of London’s manufacturing arm.
Among his creations can be counted the 4-4-4, 4-4-2, canopy, A4, 0-6-0, 4-4-0 , all coaches, tankers ( the latter two except for the splendid artwork created by Brian
Wright)
and the upcoming 2-6-2 that will be produced
under the Darstaed name.
