Dear Friends,

Darstaed is proud to announce its first engine, the A1 Peppercorn “TORNADO” that will be produced by us in exclusive arrangement with the A1 Trust.

Kidderminster october 2009

Other A1 Peppercorns will also be produced.
The engines will be British Built and Guaranteed with Mike Green of Wynford Classics in Somerset.

Before that the 2-6-2 will be launched starting with the following liveries : GWR, LBSCR, LNWR and LMS, SR, CR, LSWR, BR and SECR following soon afterwards. There will be other liveries in near futire together with more liveries of Non-Corridor stock.

Although the 2-6-2s will be issued before the TORNADO we consider the 2-6-2 engines a continuation of the tinplate engines that were produced 13 years ago with Ron Budd, the man responsible for the rebirth of tinplate in Britain.

The TORNADO and other A1 Peppercorns will be followed by an as yet unannounced 4-4-0 tender engine for now codenamed “Overlord”

The 0-6-0 J19 has proven to be very popular and there will be another issue in LNER Apple Green with additional cab lining and a stunning blue GER in limited issue.

In all engines issued from the 2-6-2s onwards the mechanism is completely re- designed ensuring smooth running and minimal maintenance. We will continue to use the trusted Japanese Mabuchi motors and all wheels, where possible, will be driven. Whenever there is sufficient space two motors will be used.

We assure our customers that all mainline engines will be made in the tradition of the celebrated A4 that we produced seven years ago regardless the economic situation that has hit us hard too. Notwithstanding that soldered brass would result in great cost savings, we will continue to cast in zinc, make full interiors with lit firebox , have operating front lights and use two layers or more of paint.

The first 2-6-2s are expected around March 2010 together with a full range of new non-corridor stock and will be manufactured in Thailand. The 2-6-2 is not prototypical but as one potential customer says “A worthy progression from the Ace 4-4-4 and Hornby original”. After all we as manufacturers of tinplate are creating beautiful objects and not scale models.

It is our intention to makefor France a CC 7001 in the style of JEP and the old Paris METRO-Sprague.

We welcome suggestions from our esteemed customers at info@darstaed.com
